FOSS4G is an event that takes place every year in a different country around the world and it covers mainly topics of Free and Open Source GIS software and geographical Open Data. It is a big opportunity for the geospatial world community to meet and share its experience with researchers, public administrators, and industries.
FOSS4G 2022 will be a hybrid event in the field of geospatial open source software – after two years it will be possible to meet again in person. The conference will be held in the scenic city of Firenze from 22 to 28 August 2022 in the spaces of the Fiera and the University of Florence.

The early bird fee, for on-site presence, is ending on 30 June. In order to facilitate attendance also from more disadvantaged places, a Travel Grant Programme has been set up and the costs for online participation are differentiated according to World Bank country classifications by income level.
FOSS4G 2022 has received more than 400 proposals for the general track, 100 for the academic, and other 100 workshops. The program’s committees selected about 300 general track proposals, 80 academic and 40 workshops to set up the five days program. The final schedule will be released soon.
As usually in FOSS4G conferences, the standard conference program will be complemented by a range of social activities: in addition to the typical Ice Breaker (on Wednesday) and Gala Dinner (on Thursday), other events will be organized: on Monday a Mapathon in collaboration with Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team and the premiere of a film related to YouthMappers on Tuesday, a women meeting co-organized with GeoChicas and Women+ in Geospatial and on Friday visits to the beautiful city of Firenze and to the Arcetri astrophysical observatory will be organized. Finally, on Saturday and Sunday, there will be the code sprint, a community camp to which everyone is invited to participate and contribute with her/his point of view, ideas, open mindset, and positive aura; after the first day on Saturday, there will be an aperitif open to everyone.
