ESRI has announced that Dr. Roger Tomlinson and well-known geographic information system (GIS) professional Larry Sugarbaker will be conducting a preconference seminar entitled “Managing a GIS” in conjunction with ESRI’s 17th Annual European Conference scheduled for October 16-18, 2002. ESRI BeLux is hosting the conference at the Floreal Club Congress Centre near the City of Bruges, Belgium.

The seminar will be held on Sunday, October 13, and will focus on planning and implementing a GIS as well as the day-to-day details of GIS management.
Tomlinson was recently awarded the Order of Canada for his work in the field of GIS technology. Recognized as the “father of GIS,” he pioneered its use worldwide and changed the face of geography as a discipline.

Several hundred GIS professionals are expected to attend ESRI’s European conference and participate in the many workshops, seminars, and presentations.

Because of the increasing use of GIS-enabled location-based services throughout the world, a special track is planned to present its most recent innovations and applications.
Also scheduled are special defense and security, transportation, and utilities tracks.
