Japan launched a rocket carrying a government intelligence-gathering satellite in a significant move to boost its military surveillance and disaster response capabilities.
The satellite has been tasked with monitoring military activities in North Korea and enhancing Japan’s preparedness and response to natural disasters. Launched by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., the rocket took off from the Tanegashima Space Center in southwestern Japan.
The newly launched satellite is equipped with the ability to capture images even in severe weather conditions. It forms an integral part of Tokyo’s reconnaissance effort to build up its military capability rapidly. This development is consequential for its disaster management strategies, as the satellite’s technology will be instrumental in improving disaster response.
The primary aim of this program is to establish a network of 10 satellites that can spot and provide early warning for possible missile launches. This network serves as a crucial component of Japan’s national security strategy.
