GeoINT Integration with Space, Marine Assets Crucial for National Security, says MoD Scientific Advisor

On the sidelines of Day of Indo-Pacific GeoInt 2023, held in New Delhi, G Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor, Indian Defence Ministry, shared key insights on the need and relevance of Geo-intelligence across sectors and countries.

All Pervasive GeoINT

โ€œGeoInt is very important element for every mission. And todayโ€™s conference, particularly for the Asia-pacific region, covers most of the population, GDP, and economies. Be it economy, security, humanitarian issues, ecology, or disaster management, geospatial intelligence is increasingly crucialโ€, he says

โ€œGeo-intelligence coupled with space-based assets, or the maritime-based assests, ground-based assets, and integrating all of these to provide a real-time update is very importantโ€, he adds

He also stressed on the need for active collaboration between nations, especially in data-sharing.

โ€œEvery country cannot invest in relevant data. Smaller countries, in particular, get a lot of information from this setting and hence we should focus on more support and collaboration.

Fostering Cooperation

“There should be trustworthy cooperation among nations and they should be able to share the information that is useful for the humankind.

As a scientist, I would say that lot more tech needs to be developed, especially space-based tech which would be significant for the military applications and for the other applications as well”, he says

“Combining and merging communication, imaging, intelligence, electronic capabilities, and merging data from ground-based and maritime-based stations are very important aspects”, he adds.
