The seventh India Water Week, organized by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India, witnessed a congregation of stakeholders, delegates, and other dignitaries from around the world.
The theme โ water security for sustainable development with equity — emphasized the India-EU partnership and discussed cases of similar nature across Europe and how the learnings could benefit Indiaโs water management.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Vikrant Tyagi, Project Coordinator, IEWP Action said, “In the European Union there are 198 river basin management plans which are based on the principal and the best approaches of the European Water Directives, and those plans have been implemented in 198 river basin districts across Europe. There were certain successes and certain failures so, lot of lessons were being learned and that one of the objectives or aim behind this action is to bring those experience from the EU sector to India so that restructuring of policies could be thereโ.
Shedding light on the role of the private sector and innovation, Jukka Ilomรคki, Counsellor, Trade and Investment, Embassy of Finland said, “When it comes to Finland, we have many monetary and digital solutions which could be applicable for India. A cooperation could really provide good results for both partnersโ.
The panellists brought many relevant topics to the forefront while reminiscing past successful experiences as well. The use cases of technology and methods of sustainable development of water in the European Union were discussed thoroughly, giving an insight into the water problem worldwide.
