China Launches World’s First High-Orbit SAR Satellite

China successfully launched the world’s first high-orbit synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite, L-SAR4 01, on Sunday morning. The satellite was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China’s Sichuan Province at 1:26 a.m. Beijing Time (17:26 UTC) on a Long March-3B carrier rocket. It entered its planned orbit successfully.

The L-SAR4 01 satellite is a remote sensing satellite that will be used to provide all-weather, all-day imaging of China’s territory and surrounding areas. It has the advantages of a short revisit period and wide imaging width, which makes it ideal for disaster monitoring and other applications.

The satellite’s launch is a significant milestone in China’s space program and will help to improve the country’s disaster prevention, mitigation, and relief capabilities. It is also a major contribution to global disaster monitoring efforts.
