Mainstreaming geospatial can bring tangible benefits into our everyday lives, particularly in sectors such as social and healthcare. Through close collaborations with key partners in these sectors, geospatial tools and solutions can support national programs.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) and the Ministry of Health’s Office for Healthcare Transformation (MOHT) at the first day of Geo Connect Asia 2024.

Fronted by Colin Low, Chief Executive of SLA and Dr Tan Weng Mooi, Director (Integrated Health Promotion) of the Office for Healthcare Transformation (MOHT), to enhance the Digital Local Connect initiative – a precinct-based digital resource guide designed to help residents access and navigate health and social services.

SLA is developing a web-based map service for DLC, to consolidate crucial location information on health and social services across five identified precincts.

By supporting residents in accessing and navigating the care that they need, this initiative helps to foster healthier communities.

Colin Low also represented SLA to sign an MoU with SingHealth Community Hospitals, represented by Associate Professor Gan Wee Hoe, Chief Executive Officer of SingHealth Community Hospitals, to co-develop a living asset map of community assets and activities. This will expand the Digital Local Connect (DLC) initiative to benefit more neighborhoods.

The second MOU between SLA and SingHealth Community Hospitals (SingHealth) involves co-developing a living asset map tailored for “social prescribing”, in support of the HealthierSG initiative.

“Social prescribing” is a healthcare paradigm that promotes a more holistic approach to health. It provides individuals with a range of non-clinical community resources to support holistic health and well-being.

Under this MoU, SLA is collaborating with SingHealth and community volunteers to map out the location of community assets and activities.

The web map showing the mapped assets will support healthcare providers and community partners in connecting their patients with suitable opportunities, as part of the social prescribing process.
