Galileo is the European Union‘s Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). It provides a highly reliable and accurate global positioning service. The €10 billion project is developed in collaboration between the European Union and the European Space Agency (ESA).
The UK contributed €1.4 billion in Galileo program. But post-Brexit, UK will not have access to secure elements of Galileo because, under EU law, UK will no longer have access to the PRS (public regulated service) of Galileo.
The European Union confirms that the United Kingdom will no longer have access to the encrypted and secure combination of the Galileo system used for military operations and the British companies would not be part of core R&D projects of Galileo.
