Once a conservation scientist, who has now become a pioneer of location intelligence, the story of Javier De La Torre is interesting. As a young scientist applying data sharing technologies for analyzing endangered species, Torre was irritated to observe the gaps between scientists, policymakers and the general public. This led to Vizzuality – a platform for visualization and dissemination of data in 2009. By 2012, Torre had discovered the magic of location intelligence, when he moved ahead and founded CARTO with a vision to democratize data analysis and visualization. Under his leadership, CARTO has grown from a groundbreaking idea into one of the fastest growing geospatial companies in the world. As a student of Agriculture Engineering and Environmental Science, Javier is passionate about data and its potential to improve the way we make decisions in our world. His love for the environment continues, and he nurtures this in his advisory capacity in multiple organizations like the European Biodiversity Observation Network.
