India successfully tests its own Scramjet engine. Two Scramjet engines were tested during the flight from Sriharikota. ISRO’s Advanced Technology Vehicle (ATV) was used to test Scramjet. engines at supersonic conditions. After a flight of about 300. seconds, the vehicle touched down in the Bay of Bengal, approximately 320 km from Sriharikota. Scramjet engine test is a. very significant development. “We are the fourth country to do such a thing, the test was very successful” says A S Kiran Kumar. Scramjet engines designed by ISRO uses hydrogen as fuel and the oxygen from the atmospheric air as the oxidiser. Scramjet engines in flight are an important milestone in ISRO’s endeavour towards its future space transportation system.
