While chairing the second plenary session on ‘IT architecture for GIS’ Lt Gen NK Kohli, AVSM, VSM, Signal Officer in Chief said “Spatial data is fast becoming a key factor in major decisions”. While Kohli concentrated his talk on the importance of spatial data.
Brent Stafford, Director, APAC enterprise sales, HERE Nokia, spoke about leveraging consumer and commercial spatial data for defence.
Vinod Kumar, IFS, gave a detailed presentation on ‘3D modelling of hilly terrains for security operations using airborne LiDAR and Ortho-images.’ Kumar enlightened the attendees about the process of preparing geo-referenced maps.
AVM PK Srivastava (Retd), L&T Ltd concentrated his talk on ‘why indigenous GIS is necessary for Indian Armed Forces’.
“GIS is at the heart of every global challenge and opportunity we face, therefore it warrants GeoIntelligence to be at the heart of strategic decision making,” said Anand Santhanam, Director, APAC, BAE systems, and ended his talk by giving a little history on geospatial intelligence and the concept of activity-based intelligence.
