Sri Lanka will soon be launching its own satellites and if all goes well, it may soon have a space agency of its own. The government has set up the Arthur C Clarke Institute of Modern Technologies under the Ministry of Science & Technology to develop space technology capabilities. The process to build a national space hub for receiving and redistributing earth observation data is in place. Collaboration with major regional space players like Japan, China and India is on. The objective is to observe Sri Lankan land surface, oceans and atmosphere using the reflectance methodology.
