Mercedes-Benz has announced at the CES 2023 that they are going to use NVIDIA Omniverse platform and digital twin capabilities in digitizing its production, as well as to design, plan and optimize their manufacturing and assembly facilities.
Mercedes-Benz has been leveraging NVIDIA technologies to develop software-defined vehicles and according to NVIDIA, the automaker is now working to start production of its new electric vehicle platform at its plant in Rastatt, Germany. Currently, the site manufactures Mercedes-Benz’s A-and B-Class as well as the compact SUV GLA and the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQA.
With NVIDIA AI and metaverse technologies, Mercedes can create constant feedback loops to reduce waste, decrease energy consumption and enhance quality. the automaker can virtually assess the loopholes, address and work it, create ergonomic working environment for the workers and monitor the robot functionality and collaborate new possibilities in real-time during the entire production process.
Benefits of Digital Twin
NVIDIA Omniverse is an open 3D development platform enabling enterprises and institutions across all industries to build and operate digital twins for industrial and scientific use cases. It is based on Universal Scene Description (USD), allowing enterprises and developers to construct custom 3D pipelines to break down data silos and interact with a single-source-of-truth view of their aggregated simulations.
Thus Mercedes-Benz can utilize NVIDIA Omniverse to build the digital twin of the factory, and review as well as optimize the production processes in the plant as and when required without interfering with the existing vehicle production. Having access to the digital twin will help the automaker to scrutinize every minute changes and validate virtually without disrupting the supply chain, and if there are any changes, they can be configured in the real world as per requirement. This will enhance efficiency and ergonomics for factory workers.
Besides, Mercedes-Benz can streamline its global operations and production networks as well as enable over-the-air software updates to manufacturing equipment. The automaker can synchronize plant locations anywhere in the world by connecting Omniverse with its in-house MO360 Data Platform.
With the help of NVIDIA Omniverse, Mercedes-Benz is executing intelligent manufacturing system just like its vehicles.
