India is a land of rivers and one-third of its territory is surrounded by oceans and seas, then why do we need to recycle and reuse water?
“The water sources we have are almost exterminated in the hot seasons. Producing alternate sustainable solutions is important for managing the water crisis in the country”, says P M Ravikumar, India Management Director, SOLIDWORKS & 3DEXPERIENCE WORKS at Dassault Systèmes.

With the adoption of Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE Works, WAE is creating products and solutions in sync with the principles of circular economy. 3DEXPERIENCE Works has made predictive, prescriptive analysis, and real-time monitoring of water processing data simple for developing innovative solutions using AI-powered modelling, generative design, and virtual twin technology.
Dassault Systèmes recently strengthened their six year partnership with WAE for bringing innovative products to the market for reusing and recycling water. WAE has expanded its product portfolio from point of use water dispensers to point of use taps as a step towards limiting the water footprint of its customers across India.
“We have made significant progress in the sustainability goals by eliminating 9 million plastic bottles from the circulation. Design has been the biggest differentiator for us and our choice of partnering with Dassault Systèmes is a step towards providing sustainable solutions for the consumers. Their 3DEXPERIENCE Works has enabled design thinking along with significantly improving frugal engineering practices. It has increased our efficiency by 40%. By 2030 we aim to bring down the usage of plastics by 75%” says Anupam Joshe, MD & CEO, WAE.
“We need data to conceptualize the framework of sophisticated machines that we make for water purification. Also, we need much deliberate invention on the water itself that is outbound in our machines”, adds Ravikumar.

To make the process more efficient, the number of bottles for reuse is estimated. In the case of the machine itself, the water is purified by the machine to a 99.99 % purity. This is due to the device, called ROVPD membrane, (reverse osmosis variable pressure device), which further leads to a cut down of wastewater percentage by 30%.
Circular economy: need of the hour
As per the estimates, the adoption of a circular economy has the potential to bring India annual benefits to a tune of INR40 lakh crores by 2050. However, the primary goal in moving to a circular economy is to preserve the way of life and forge the growth path by making it sustainable. Circular economy is a blueprint for long term sustainability and economic prosperity for companies as well.
“By increasing resource productivity, we reduce costs and efforts along with improving efficiency. By recycling and reusing we will fundamentally change the way we produce products and services along with creating more value on both a micro and macro level,” says Ravikumar.
