After weeks of power struggles between Sudanโ€™s army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, clashes broke out across Sudan on 15th April.

The fighting began with attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on key government sites. Explosions and gunfire were reported across Khartoum. Both RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and de facto leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan claimed to control key government sites, including Sudan TV headquarters, the Presidential Palace, Khartoum International Airport, and the Army chief’s official residence.

Satellite images captured by US-based space technology firm, Maxar Technologies and Planet Lab, an American public satellite imagery company, show the scale of destruction in Sudan amid intense fighting between the Sudanese military and rival paramilitary groups.

Below are the images collected on April 17, 2023 over Khartoum, Sudan, showing damage from the ongoing fight between rival Sudanese military factions.
