In-Pictures | Kyiv Drones Hit Strategic Russian Airbases

The Russian defence ministry stated that two Ukrainian strike drones attacked military bases near Moscow on December 5.

According to reports, the Ukrainian drones were intercepted on Monday as explosions were witnessed at Russian cities Saratov and Ryazan military bases Engles-2 and Dyagilevo respectively.

The bombings killed three people and injured five when an oil barrel exploded due to the attack, according to the Russian state media. Furthermore, two planes were reportedly damaged as well.

The two bases are home to Russia’s long-range Tu-95 and Tu-22M aircraft which were used to bomb Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in October. This strategic bombing, carried out by Russia left millions in Ukraine without heat and electricity as the winter approached.

Astonishingly, the two bases were situated far away from the border of Ukraine and Russia. According to The Guardian, Kyiv has developed a strike drone with a range of 1,000 km. This drone has been used to reiterate the attacks on the two airbases in Russia.

The Dyagilevo military airbase is situated in Ryazan, a city less than 150 miles from Moscow, which instates greater tension in escalation perhaps the missile drops in the Russian capital in the future. Here are the pictures that showcase the damage caused by the attack.
