Iceland’s Biggest Airport Ropes NZ Firm for Optimal Passenger Experience

Keflavik Airport a.k.a Reykjavik–Keflavik Airport, the largest airport in Iceland and the country’s main hub for international transportation, has successfully implemented Veovo’s Queue Balancer solution to optimize passenger flow and improve the transfer experience at its border control.

Isavia, the Icelandic airport operator has deployed the Queue Balancer solution at Keflavik International Airport to automate and balance the movement of local arriving and transferring passengers dynamically.

With this the airport primarily does four things, one is to maximize resources, the second is to improve passenger experience, the third is to enhance throughput(The capacity or rate of production of a machine or system) and finally make sure of timely performance.

Veovo’s Queue Balancing Solution

Veovo’s Queue Balancing Solution works on the principle of automatically directing passengers to the next available lane or counter through dynamic signage, which uses sensors and real-time data. This removes the need for staff-managed queue distribution.

The dynamic signage is done through sensors and real- data, where different lines separate international and local travel and the passengers are guided to the nearest open counter.

The solution using AI intelligently calculates the most appropriate line for passengers based on factors such as

  • wait times
  • occupancy
  • processing speed(maximizing throughput)

The system also makes sure that arranges and prioritizes specific passenger categories if their queue time exceeds the service level target. This is best explained when for example an estimated and predicted non-EU transfer queue time surpasses service levels; then the transfer passengers are asked to come forward to the holding zones. This speeds up the process and makes it more efficient.
