The IPGF 2024 concluded with a Valedictory speech by the Chief Guest, Lt General Vinod Khandare, PVSM, AVSM, SM, Principal Advisor, Ministry of Defence who called the 2-day forum a resounding success, highlighting India’s growing prowess in the geospatial domain. The event served as a crucial platform for interaction between industry, academia, users, and policymakers.
He thanked Lt. General Chandele and Sanjay Kumar CEO, Geospatial World for the success of the event calling them stalwarts and extremely responsive with requirements of the nation’s growth and security integrating with the geospatial domain.
In an ever-evolving world, upgrading skills and staying technologically savvy is imperative. As Lt. Gen. Khandare emphasized saying, “We need techno leaders and have to be tech-savvy.” The future of warfare lies in leveraging space and cyber domains for faster, more effective solutions.
According to him, the geospatial domain has taken centre stage in modern warfare, as seen in conflicts such as Russia-Ukraine, the Gaza Strip, and the Taiwan Strait. It’s clear that geospatial intelligence is a key factor in understanding and responding to geopolitical shifts.
India’s Prominent Role in Geospatial
With India leading the G20 and emerging as a global power, the nation has a unique opportunity to drive geospatial advancements. As Lt. Gen. Khandare noted, “Space is one domain which can lead us ahead.”
He added on saying, “The geospatial domain isn’t just about defence; it has the potential to accelerate India’s economic growth. Becoming “space literate” and developing policies that promote geospatial applications are essential steps in this direction.
Collaboration Key in Moving Forward
India’s journey in the geospatial domain is a collective effort.
Lt. Gen Khandare emphasized, “Reducing dependence on foreign technology, particularly in hardware like semiconductors and sensors, is a top priority. Collaboration with international experts can help India build its capabilities without relying on technology transfers.
By encouraging collaboration between the public and private sectors, investing in technological advancements, and promoting space literacy, India can harness the full potential of this domain. This will strengthen India’s defence capabilities and also drive its economic growth.
