China’s weather satellite is able to serve countries hit by the tsunamis. An official from China’s National Satellite Meteorological Centre said, China’s weather satellite was able to give information to countries hit by the tsunamis, to help warn of future disasters.

Xu Jianmin said the Fengyun-2C, the first geostationary orbit satellite launched by China last November, was important because weather satellites were rare above the Indian Ocean.

He said the Fengyun-2C was expected to be a part of the planned weather forecast program for the Indian Ocean. He added that because of its wide observation range, the satellite not also could provide important weather information to China, but also to some countries that were recently hit by tsunamis.
