Virtual Wave and Airbiquity offering Wireless Location-Based services through RoadStar GPS

< 1 Minute Read

September 17, 2002 Virtual Wave has selected the GPS Accessory by Airbiquity for the delivery of its RoadStar GPS wireless location-based services.

Now with the push of a button, consumers across North America can have access to roadside assistance, trip planning, reservation services, location-based directory assistance (L-411), short messaging (SMS), e-mail and turn-by-turn navigation based on the caller’s GPS-pinpointed location.

The GPS Accessory is a battery attachment that is compatible with over 30 different Nokia-brand phone models. The device allows users to “fix” their position via satellite with the push of a button, and send the location data over the wireless voice channel to RoadStar GPS’s call center.

Because the service is cell-phone based rather than vehicle-based, subscribers can access RoadStar GPS from virtually any outdoor location – the roadside, a city sidewalk or a hiking trail.
