Smartcities World reports that a new Korea-Vietnam Smart City Construction Technology Cooperation Center has officially opened in Hanoi. This joint initiative aims to foster technology sharing and promote the expansion of South Korean companies into the Vietnamese market.
The centre, established under the auspices of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT), marks a significant step forward in bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Funded with KRW 7,493 billion (approximately ยฃ5.5 million), the centre is a result of a 2020 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on construction and urban development.
Participating organizations, including the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, the Korea Land and Housing Corporation, and the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, have been instrumental in developing the centre.
Expected to serve as a hub for both domestic construction and IT industries entering Vietnam, the centre will facilitate technology exchange and support the development of smart cities in Vietnam. It will also play a key role in international joint research and the local entry of South Korean companies.
Located within the Academy of Managers for Construction and Cities, the centre boasts various facilities such as a Smart City Technology Exhibition Hall, a Smart City Certification Data Center, a Smart Virtual Reality (VR) Experience Hall, and an Education Center.
