The state Legislature designated the Mississippi Technology Transfer Center at Stennis Space Center a center of excellence in geospatial technology. “Over the past decade, Mississippi has focused diligently on posturing itself as a national leader in the geospatial technologies,” said Greg Hinkebein, president of the Mississippi Enterprise for Technology.

The concurrent resolution allows the center to promote itself as having expertise across the board in the geospatial field. Stennis Space Center is one of NASA’s key facilities for remote-sensing research and development.

The enterprise was established in 1995, with the Mississippi Development Authority, NASA and state institutions of higher learning as a private, nonprofit dedicated to creating high-wage jobs in Mississippi. The Technology Transfer Center, in addition to housing the enterprise, also houses four university groups, two nonprofit corporations and 22 companies.
