US: The United States Census Bureau recently launched the pilot trial of their interactive mapping portal called Census Explorer, which allows users to learn relevant information about his or her neighborhood. Topics currently available include: total population, percentage of 65 years old and above, foreign born population percentage, educational attainment, labor force participation rate, home ownership rate and median household income.
Furthermore, the Census Explorer includes not only the latest American Community Survey five-year statistics (2008-2012) but also information from the 1990 and 2000 censuses, so users can see how their community has changed over the past two decades. “We’d like to add more topics to this tool in the future, depending on resources and how well this first version is received,” said a spokesperson the Census Bureau.
