3rd October 2002. Laser-Scan’s Product Architect has taken Deputy Chairmanship of the UK Oracle User Group (UKOUG) Spatial SIG, organised by the UK Oracle User Group.
Product Architect Seb Lessware takes on the role of Deputy Chairman while the UKOUG Spatial SIG is still in its infancy. Even though this is early days for the Spatial SIG the organisers, UKOUG, report that each of the first two meetings have been oversubscribed.
Following the runaway success of the first event earlier this year the second was even more popular with 65 delegates attending and even more on the waiting list.
The UKOUG Spatial SIG started life in May this year and includes presentations from companies developing solutions for Oracle Spatial as well as from users and Oracle specialists. The most recent meeting covered such topics as data loading, topology and spatial data management.
Last week’s SIG meeting included a presentation from Laser-Scan’s Dr Paul Watson on the subject of topology in Oracle9i. Laser-Scan has developed a new product called Radius Topology, which provides dramatic improvements to the speed and consistency of spatial data handling within the Oracle9i database. There has already been significant interest in this product from across the industry with companies like Intergraph and Autodesk working closely with Laser-Scan.
