US: At the Autodesk University Las Vegas 2017, Topcon Positioning Group presented an instructional session on โAdding Intelligence to Point Clouds for Near Real-Time Construction Management.โ
The three-day event focusing on the future of making things, witnessed 10,000+ professionals from the architecture, design, manufacturing, and media industries. The session featured a demonstration exploring how to best manage the flow of data immediately after a construction slab pour, optimizing point cloud data.
Andrew Evans and Matthias Stark, Topcon application specialists, were presenters.
Director of Vertical Construction at Topcon,ย Lisa Duncan said, โAEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) professionals are coming to rely on BIM processes as a successful approach to workflow efficiency. The session shared an integrated workflow with Topcon MAGNET software, 3D laser scanning, and robotic station hardware in combination with Autodesk software to streamline efficiency on a project.โ
Duncan added, โThe use of scan data to create a tolerance heat map is in place today. Our presenters demonstrated a new process to send this data out to a tablet using Autodesk BIM 360 on a job site as a visual 3D quality control and remediation aid. This real-time feedback can be crucial to the success of a construction project.โ
