Sybase, Inc., a enterprise infrastructure and integration company, has announced the general availability of the latest release of the migration and rapid data integration tool, Convoy/DM 3.7.1, developed by its wholly owned subsidiary, New Era of Networks. The latest release of Convoy/DM includes features for improving ease of use and streamlining the data conversion process while helping to reduce the costs of data migration and ongoing migration maintenance.
As enterprises move from disparate applications and systems to more sophisticated integrated applications like PeopleSoft, the process of converting and migrating data from these systems into a single application is a costly and time consuming process. This effort often represents one-third of the cost and time associated with a typical packaged application implementation and deployment.
“Data conversion tools can reduce the risk, cost and time of a packaged application implementation and deployment for essential applications such as PeopleSoft,” said Tyler McDaniel, Director, Applications Strategies at Hurwitz Group, Inc. “Customers should select proven tools with rapid data migration capabilities that not only facilitate intelligent metadata discovery, but also specify mapping and automate error handling.”
Convoy/DM is a data migration tool designed to facilitate the extraction, transformation and migration of data from various applications and legacy data systems to PeopleSoft applications, or to upgrade PeopleSoft applications to PeopleSoft 8. It accomplishes this by generating scripts and programs — written in industry standard programming languages such as SQR, C, or Visual Basic — custom tailored to each customer’s exact data migration needs. If desired, customers can modify the resulting source code to perform additional complex functions; however, this is rarely necessary as Convoy/DM addresses most conversion requirements without the need for manual coding. Convoy/DM 3.7.1 features focus on ease of use and streamlining the data migration process through:
- Automatic metadata extraction through SQR scripts
- Automatic metadata extraction from any ODBC-compliant relational database management system
- Improved performance for in-memory validation of edit tables
- Enhanced error message logging during data transfer operations.
