Varanasi, UP, India: To streamline the electricity system, the Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) in Uttar Pradesh State, India, will begin its work in Varanasi under the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) from March 25, 2010.

According to a PVVNL spokesperson, the GIS mapping of all power consumers would be done under this programme. After completion of the programme, the power billing would be online. For the convenience of power consumers, a customer care centre will also be created. The complaints will be monitored online.

PVVNL managing director Suresh Ram held a meeting of the officials to discuss about the implementation of the programme at 29 towns including Varanasi, Allahabad, Mirzapur, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Chunar, Sonebhadra, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Sant Ravidas Nagar and others. Varanasi will be the first town from where the R-ADRP will be started in the region.

It is to be mentioned here that it is proposed to cover urban areas — towns and cities with population of more than 30,000 (10,000 in case of special category states) under this programme.
