Wheresoft has announced that it has successfully delivered “Find-It”, StarHub’s Location-based Directory Service that was launched on 5 September 2002.
This follows Wheresoft’s award of the Location-based Services (LBS) Map Content Provision contract by Singapore Land Authority (SLA) on 28 August 2002. SLA provides a rich repository of comprehensive, accurate and updated maps and databases tailored specifically for LBS. StarHub is the first mobile operator in Singapore to launch such a service on Wheresoft’s LBS platform.
“Find-It” helps users locate nearest amenities by determining their locations automatically. Be it ATMs, post offices, 4-D outlets, MRT stations or restaurants, users locate them on the move by sending SMS requests to F-I-N-D (3463) or via WAP. Users can further define their search by sub-categories like ATM types (DBS, UOB,
OCBC, etc.) or cuisine type for food (Chinese, Japanese, Western, etc.). This ‘need of the moment’ service also provides proximity search for urgent situations such as nearest polyclinics, dentists, police and petrol stations, 24-hour shops, etc. The smart proximity search, another first in Singapore, automatically extends to cover more areas if none is found within the immediate vicinity.
