Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka is planning to set up a national agency to coordinate geospatial data and information acquired by different agencies.
The Ministry of Lands and Land Development in Sri Lanka has found that the geospatial information gathered by various agencies cannot be shared due to the lack of coordination. It causes duplication of efforts. Now, the Ministry of Lands and Land Development has proposed to set up a national programme through a separate unit. This unit will be established in the ministry’s Survey Department. The ministry aims at developing a reliable geospatial information platform, which could exactly indicate the geographic location of a natural or constructed feature in the country. The Cabinet has given approval to the programme. It has also appointed a monitoring committee.
