July 31, 2002 – SK Telecom Co., Ltd. has said that it would introduce global positioning services (GPS) to subscribers. The company said on July 29 that it would begin “Nate GPS” services, which provide navigation information and other information services to users.
The GPS brings down navigational errors to fewer than 10 meters, SK Telecom said, adding the service can be used through GPS handsets, which Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. recently launched in the local market.
The handsets are priced at around 500,000 won, and the service is free until it becomes commercialised in September. (1,185.00 won = US$1)
