SiRF Technology, Inc. and Korea-based Intelinx, Inc. have announced a strategic alliance in which Intelinx will develop a broad range of location-aware wireless accessories, PDA devices and telematics and automotive products based on SiRF’s GPS architecture. In addition, SiRF will work with Intelinx to develop network-based location services for mobile telecommunication service providers within the CDMA network. These products and services will all be marketed by Intelinx in Korea.
SiRF will enable Intelinx to bring location and navigation functionality to several products, including the following:
- A GPS attachment that location-enables Samsung CDMA cellular phones, allowing users to send their location in cases of emergency.
- A service for Samsung Insurance customers, whereby an Intelinx telematics unit will be installed in the customers’ automobiles to help track stolen vehicles and to provide other location services such as emergency calling and directions to nearby car maintenance centres.
- The Magic Voice navigation device that provides turn-by-turn automobile navigation and other travel-related functions.
- A GPS smart antenna that location-enables PDAs to provide reliable position, through a USB interface.
SiRFstar IIe
Specifically, these products will be location-enabled with the SiRFstarIIe GPS architecture, which delivers complete GPS functionality that is high performance, yet with a very small footprint, making it an ideal technology for integration into a wide variety of products. With its unique set of features such as SnapStart(TM) for quick start-up, SnapLock(TM) for fast acquisition and FoliageLock(TM) for high sensitivity, the SiRFstar architecture based products provide enhanced GPS-based location information in urban canyons and dense foliage — where traditional GPS architectures have significant problems. SiRF has also developed a set of technologies to facilitate and optimize GPS integration into specific platforms, such as automobiles, cell phones and personal digital assistants.
