Its not enough to have the funds for acquiring sophisticated machinery. Money is also required to bring it into use. The Noida, Uttar Pradesh (India) police have realized this much to their chargein.
Their project of policing the city through the GPS has been put on the back burner due to paucity of funds. While the Noida police have digitally mapped the city and conducted the trial runs, all hopes to man the area through a satellite-based programme have been dashed for the want of funds from the State Government.
GPS will help the police not only tracking down the particular sector or house which has been given the distress call but will also tell them how much time the police have taken to take the action.
“We require Rs. 20 lakh to implement this project. Once we receive the funds we will implement the system within 15 days,” says the new SSP Noida Rajiv Krishna.
GPS will track vehicles and pinpoint the area of the incident through a satellite based antenna. With this no hoax calls will be possible. Calls made from the PCOs will also be traced. GPS will be installed on vehicles of SHOs and PCRs. Noida police hopes to add 15 new vehicles equiped with GPS.
