The Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) was presented with an Award of Excellence at ESRI Canada’s fifth annual ESRI Regional User Conference in Regina. Alex Miller, President of ESRI Canada, the leading geographic information systems (GIS) provider in Canada, presented the Award in recognition of SAMA’s property assessment model. More than 150 GIS professionals were on hand for the presentation, which was one of the highlights of the conference.
Soil and climate conditions, farming practices, economic cycles, and other factors also affect the land value, making it inherently complex to predict their values. Using ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst, SAMA is able to analyze trends in data across neighbourhood boundaries, something traditional methods could not accomplish. Geostatistical methods predict values of unsampled parcels based on the values of nearby sample values, proximity, and other factors, depending on the technique used.
