US: Esri has announced a partnership with one of the leading enterprise software and services providers SAP that offers to integrate spatial analytics and self-service mapping, and collaborate geographic information system (GIS) and business intelligence tools. The tie-up was announced at the five-day Esri User Conference which is being held from July 14 to 18.
Esri and SAP have been collaborating for several years now, but so far their tools and applications were relying more on third-party integration. But with the current announcement, SAP HANA users will not need to move data out of HANA and into Esri's ArcGIS server. Instead, Esri integration will execute ArcGIS queries inside SAP HANA via Esri Query Layers feature.
“By working with SAP to integrate ArcGIS across SAP HANA, analytic solutions, business and mobile applications, we ensure that customers can easily leverage Esri within their SAP landscapes,” said Esri CEO Jack Dangermond.
With mapped insights gaining more traction and demand, integration with SAP’s mobile platform will provide a boost to on-field users of Esri who would be able to manipulate interactive maps and obtain more detailed geographic information using SAP Work Manager mobile app.
Steve Lucas, president, Platform Solutions, SAP, said, “By integrating ESRI’s industry leading GIS with SAP HANA, the SAP BusinessObjects BI platform and SAP Mobile Platform as well as geospatial analytics within SAP Lumira, we are enriching business data with geographical context and presenting it in real time.”
“We have built a custom application on SAP HANA that helps us identify high-risk gas pipes in close proximity to residential buildings. Now with spatial processing in SAP HANA, we can… perform ad hoc asset management, reduce potential outages and avoid catastrophic failures,” said Pieter Den Hamer, Big Data BI Strategy Manager, Alliander.
Esri also announced the extension of geospatial analytics from ArcGIS Online within SAP Lumira, which is a SAP’s data-discovery and data-visualization platform built on HTML5. Additional options for integration between SAP BusinessObjects BI and Esri geospatial services include: Galigeo BI for Location Analytics for SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence software, Integeo Map Intelligence for SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence, Centigon CMaps Analytics and Esri Maps for SAP BusinessObjects BI.
