Safe Software extends GML 2 support

< 1 Minute Read

July 24, 2002 – Safe Software Inc., data transformation solutions provider, has announced the immediate availability of GML 2 support across its entire product line. Safe Software has been developing GML translation libraries and software for the past two years, and has recently added configurable GML reading and writing capability to all its interoperability software.

FME Suite, FME Objects, and SpatialDirect software users can now easily move data between GML 2 and more than 100 unique Geographic Information System (GIS), Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and database systems. FME Suite users can perform GML 2 translations and sophisticated processing tasks with point-and-click ease. FME Objects (which includes both API and OEM versions) provides a gateway that allows third-party applications to support GML 2 data. SpatialDirect allows organizations to distribute data in GML 2 format over the Internet.

Geography Markup Language (GML) is an Extensible Markup Language (XML) encoding for the transport and storage of geographic information, including geometry and descriptive attributes of geographic features. Safe Software used its configurable XML translation engine to build the GML 2 reader and writer, a feature that allows users to quickly and easily add support for any XML-based data format.

The company’s GML 2 translation technology has undergone several refinements, including performance and usability improvements, and the technology is used by many organizations wanting to transfer legacy data in and out of GML 2. The Open GIS Consortium (OGC), an international GIS organization, developed GML 2 to increase interoperability within the GIS community. Safe Software is an associate member of the OGC.
