Ahmedabad, India: Space Application Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad, India is designing and developing software for Insat 3D satellite. The satellite will be launched in 2011 catapulting India into an exclusive club of countries that have launched advanced meteorological satellites
According to experts, the satellite will help gather minute data on a variety of factors, resulting in better and faster weather prediction. Today, countries like the US have systems such as GOES for weather forecasting that work on the same platform.
India launched its own exclusive meteorological satellite in 2002 with MetSat that was later renamed as Kalpana in the memory of astronaut Kalpana Chawla who died in the Columbia space mission.
