RMSI showcases ‘Make in India’ solutions for disaster risk reduction

India: RMSI recently participated at the Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR 2016) held in Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi from November 2-5, 2016. Organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with UNISDR, the AMCDRR 2016 conference aimed to transform the commitment of governments and stakeholders made in Sendai during the WCDRR into national and local action; and set the direction to accelerate regional implementation and monitoring of the Sendai Framework.

As a pioneer in the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) domain, RMSI showcased ‘Made in India’ Nat Cat disaster modeling solutions for DRR, which included:

  • India FloodRisk
  • Indian Subcontinent Earthquake Risk
  • PIER (Profiler for Insurance Exposure & Risk)
  • India Cyclone Hazard Model

These are high resolution models specially developed for the Indian subcontinent. The models apply state-of-the-art technology and the latest research to provide reliable and detailed risk assessment.

Apart from the scientific models, RMSI also highlighted its specialized consultancy services for Disaster Risk Reduction, Water Resource Planning and Climate Change. Globally, RMSI is one of the very few disaster consulting companies with solutions for the entire spectrum of the disaster management cycle, and experience of working in developed as well as the least developed nations including crisis prone and data poor countries. 

As part of the run up to the AMCDRR 2016, UNISDR (along with FICCI, NIDM and ARISE) organized the First Private Sector Conference: GLOBAL UNITED FUND Business Investment Opportunities. Pushpendra Johari, VP – Risk & Insurance, RMSI, was one of the few risk specialists from the private sector who was invited to present at the event on business opportunities for the private sector in DRR. His observations and recommendations were well appreciated by the global disaster risk reduction fraternity present at the event.
