Mansoor Al Malki, director of information and technology department at the QSA said the project aims to form electronic database which includes all social and economic information which can be accessed from the website affiliated to ictQatar. The atlas will contain objective descriptions of geographical sites, population, housing and residential units and facilities along with other information relating to infrastructure and other facilities along with some historical information.
The project, considered one of the most important done by the QSA, will enable decision makers to build upon plans and programmes based on standardised data. It will also provide the latest and most accurate statistical indicators required by regional organisations for international reports and related aspects of social and economic development.
It will enable decision makers to identify the geographic distributions of population and housing and to identify areas of growth and development, and thus measure the efficiency of services provided such as infrastructure for utilities such as roads and lines, water, electricity, schools, hospitals and public parks.
