Prithviraj Chavan is the new S&T minister of India

New Delhi – Prithviraj Chavan is India’s new Science & Technology and Earth Sciences minister. He has taken oath of office at Rashtrapati Bhavan here today. He is part of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Cabinet which has formed government for a second term after the UPA won in the recent general elections. Chavan replaces Kapil Sibal as S&T minister.

Prithviraj Chavan is an engineer by profession, having obtained his M.S from BITS Pilani and the UC – Berkeley. He has done research in computerisation of Indian languages.

With a penchant for technology and having actively participated in many a conferences dealing with geospatial sciences, he is a man who is sure to lead the Indian S&T sceanario to higher levels.
