New York Cityโs Office of The Mayor, and PlanGraphics have launched a redesigned online version of the Mayorโs Management Report, previously released as a 1,000-page document, that โhas taken it from a gray collection of data to an inviting illustration of city performanceโ stated a recent editorial in the New York Times.
The My Neighborhood Statistics site is receiving much acclaim for NYC residents. The October 1, 2002 editorial in the New York Times also claimed, โMr. Bloomberg delivered an artsy cover, clear graphics, a plain-English narrative, neatly packaged statistics and [online innovation]โฆthe report is an invitation to New Yorkers to learn more about the performance of city government. They should make good use of it.โ
The report, traditionally published bi-annually, contains more than 800+ performance measures used to rate different areas of the City. The online version, created by PlanGraphics utilizing ESRIโs ArcIMS and ArcSDE software, highlights 15 indicators, including air quality, noise and asbestos complaints, street cleanliness, test scores at public high schools, number of people who receive welfare, and crime statistics by police district such as felonies and murders in that specific precinct. The statistical component of My Neighborhood is likely to expand to include more details in the future.
