Philippines: Malabon, a city located in north of Metro Manila, is planning to adopt GIS system to improve tax collection.
The City Government of Malabon aims at collecting Php 1 billion ($ 23 million) in revenues by 2014. Therefore the Management Information Systems (MIS) Department is planning to migrate all the data such as land registry records and the list of actual taxpayers from an old database implemented in 2005, to a new one. The new database will leverage GIS system to improve its performance. The GIS map will help local authorities in monitoring the houses or the establishments which do not pay taxes.
