Geographic information system (GIS) professionals from the petroleum and energy industry will gather for the Petroleum User Group (PUG) Conference and Vendor Faire March 10–12, 2003, in Houston, Texas. More than 600 GIS professionals from the petroleum and energy industry are expected to attend the event, which is free of charge. Spatial information, including seismic points, land parcels, land feature details, and other data, is a crucial aspect of petroleum ventures. GIS technology is used to manage this data to ensure efficient and effective operation within the industry. PUG was created to facilitate communication about GIS technology among ESRI and oil companies, GIS consultants, oil service companies, GIS data providers, hardware suppliers, and software suppliers within the petroleum industry. The group helps professionals stay up-to-date with the GIS software and technology that meets their specific needs.
The conference will include presentations by ESRI product managers, demonstrations, and technical sessions. Representatives from the petroleum and pipeline industry will be able to meet with ESRI product managers to exchange ideas, bring attention to specific needs, and discuss plans for the future. More than 50 business partners will highlight their GIS-based technology solutions, giving attendees the opportunity to learn about starting, developing, and refining GIS-based applications and services.
This year, founder and president Jack Dangermond will open the plenary session, and will visit with oil company executives to hear where they wish to see enterprise GIS evolve.
