Peru: Peruvian archaeologists are successfully employing drones to study pre-Inca ruins in the regions of Amazon rainforest and the Andes Mountains.
The ruins are located in South America's most inaccessible parts. The onboard cameras provide archaeologists with an “eye in the sky” to find ruins without making expensive and time-consuming treks to these regions besides helping researchers create 3-D models of the ancient sites being researched.
Drones were first used in Peru in 2013 to investigate the tombs that belonged to a pre-Inca culture called Chachapoyas.
