US, October 14, 2014: On October 6, Pennsylvania Department of Transport (PennDOT) Secretary Barry J. Schoch unveiled a new website that illustrates transportation innovations that have been deployed on roads and bridges throughout the state.
The State Transportation Innovation Council (STIC) Web Viewer is an online tool for users to locate transportation innovations such as pavement techniques that are environmentally friendly and improve safety, and accelerated bridge construction that saves time and money being implemented in Pennsylvania.
The web viewer (pictured above) provides technical details on innovations underway and educational information about the STIC. On the website, the public can view innovations in their region sorted by county, PennDOT district, or transportation planning partner.
PennDOT in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration created Pennsylvania’s STIC in 2010. The STIC is composed of a multi-stakeholder leadership team that works together to forge an environment of innovation, imagination, and ingenuity to pursue specific initiatives and their rapid implementation to deliver a modern, high quality transportation system.
The Pennsylvania State Transportation Innovation Council is part of PennDOT’s Next Generation, a combination of five distinct initiatives to review and enhance PennDOT’s operations to create improved efficiencies and make the agency both a better business partner and a better employer. To date, Next Generation initiatives will save the department an estimated $100 million a year.
