London, UK (PRWEB) January 22, 2008 — The PDF3Dยฎ SDK development kit from Visual Technology Services now includes VTK (Visualization Toolkit) integration, allowing VTK interactive 3D scenes to be published as interactive 3D PDF files. VTK is a software system for 3D computer graphics, image processing, and visualization used by thousands of researchers and developers around the world. Data analysis and 3D visualization applications using VTK can now easily be extended to publish interactive PDF documents, fostering improved collaboration, communication and technical information exchange.
VTK 5 plus PDF3Dยฎ SDK 1.4.2 supports application development including full documentation and source examples. VTK pipeline 3D windows can be injected as new view ports into new or existing PDF files, giving users flexible options to generate technical reports. 3D PDF reports may be freely distributed and viewed by anyone with the Adobeยฎ Reader. The VTK interface generates PDF files in one step, without intermediate files by connecting directly to the VTK render window pipeline. Supporting 3D geometry, lines, surfaces, textures, labels, shaded vertex colors, transparency and alpha-blending, the interface can be added in just a few lines of code using the vtkPDF3DExporter class. The output PDF can also include title, caption and other automatically generated annotations and may be presented with full 3D interaction inside a PowerPoint presentation. The VTK and PDF3D integration is currently used in a Geophysical modeling application and is expected to be applied to fields such as Geology, Aerospace, Engineering, Environmental GIS and Medical Imaging.
