Pakistan: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) of Pakistan has plans to use Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) to verify business premises of all the units that intend to obtain Sales Tax Registration Numbers (STRNs). The FBR has started the pilot project in Lahore.
The FBR will apply commodity codes for different items. GPS will be used to track these items to the business premises. This is aimed at keeping an eye on all business activities related to those items. Finally, the information from different units will be managed through a unified application to provide centralized single source of information to senior officials.
