The local active OSGeo members from Belgium has announced the birth of the Belgian local Chapter during the first FOSS4G-BE gatherings on 29 October 2015 in Brussels. Previously, the Belgian community members are either active in the OSGeo.nl, the OSGeo.fr or in several OSGeo communities. OSGeo Belgium will therefore act as a bridge between the language communities and cultures due to its unique multilingual composition. “The Belgium chapter will actively work on the promotion of open source Geo solutions and the continuation of all the good work based on the existing software stacks. Together with the Belgian eco-system of administrations, industry and schools, we want to build on a more open world,” explained Johan Van de Wauw, President of OSGEO Belgium. The first FOSS4G-BE received overwhelming response from open source community in Belgium and neighbouring countries gathering almost 400 delegates.
