Canada, 14 May 2007: Orion Technology announced updates to its latest version OnPoint technology with OnPoint 6 which is expected to enhance Web-GIS solutions.vbcrlfvbcrlfOnPoint 6 comes in two types, Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition, and can now connect to more spatial data sources including ESRIโ€™s ArcIMS, ArcSDE, and ArcGIS Server, OGC (WMS & WFS), Microsoft MapPoint, Pictometry, and more. It also connects to all non-spatial data in Oracle, SQL Server, and any other ODBC compliant database to allow user interaction.vbcrlfvbcrlfOnPoint 6’s newest enhancements are product extensions for Pictometry and Microsoft Virtual Earth. Pictometry images provide users with a new perspective, offering oblique aerial images from a variety of different angles. The Pictometry extension for OnPoint allows users to view Pictometry imagery over the web within OnPoint, including the tools to change the oblique perspective being displayed. It also allows for the use of standard Pictometry measure tools from within OnPoint to measure distances, areas, elevation, and more. Users can also apply the Pictometry image as an interface, essentially allowing them to identify off the oblique image, retrieving related GIS or business system data using OnPointโ€™s multi-level join capabilities.vbcrlfvbcrlfThe Microsoft Virtual Earth extension to OnPoint provides users with information of road network, landmark, oblique, and street level imagery that they do not need to build and maintain. A primary advantage is being able to overlay all locally managed GIS database content with Virtual Earth imagery, essentially allowing the user to click on the imagery and receive attributes through OnPointโ€™s GIS layers and joined business systems. The extension also offers the ability to route throughout road networks, searching with specific parameters in OnPoint and designating the results as Start/End points in routing using Virtual Earth.vbcrlfvbcrlfThe newest release of OnPoint is said to provide enhanced out-of-the-box implementation capabilities, advanced security, powerful administration tools for customizing and managing the web portals, and unparalleled data and application integration features.vbcrlfvbcrlfOrion Technology of Canada, is a product development and integration company, specializing in web-GIS.
