OpenOSX an U.S. based company recently announced the availability of an updated version of their “OpenOSX GrassPro” product. In addition to bringing Mac OS 10.4 “Tiger” support to “OpenOSX GrassPro”, OpenOSX has updated it’s free “OpenOSX Grass” stand-alone application, which also brings Tiger compatibility. The free application is included with the OpenOSX GrassPro product.
The new version of “OpenOSX GrassPro” updates MapServer from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2, PostGIS from release candidate 1.0.0rc3 to 1.0.0, from PHP 4.3.10 to PHP 5.0.4, includes many bug fixes and enhancements and brings Tiger compatibility. The “OpenOSX GrassPro” product features “OpenOSX Grass”; a standalone application based on the powerful and proven open source “GRASS 6.0.0 GIS” software, requiring only a drag-and-drop installation, along with an exhaustive suite of additional software and tools included to compliment and extend the functionality of GRASS GIS.
To compliment “OpenOSX Grass”, “OpenOSX GrassPro” offers a host of ready-to-use GIS software and utilities, including: MapServer for publishing dynamic, navigable maps with layers over the Internet; PostGIS which enables spatial, geographic support for the included PostgreSQL (similar to ESRI(R)’s Spatial Data Engine (SDE) and Oracle’s Spatial Extension); “OpenOSX GMT” a stand-alone application which features Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) 4.4.2 with iGMT 1.2 for a user interface, complete with an embedded world-wide data set with several layers including: elevation, sea-floor age, gravity and more; a suite of BLM command-line utilities and more all backed with documentation, tutorials, sample-data, limited installation and getting-started
support.
GRASS 6.0.0 includes the new “GIS Display Manager”, a vector engine capable of handling 2D and 3D vector data, an NVIZ 3D
interface allowing volume (voxel) capabilities, 3D and 4D
visualization, and the ability to integrate database management systems such as PostgreSQL, mySQL, or DBF, ODBC.
