India: India Biodiversity Portal, an online repository which aims to provide open and free access to biodiversity information of India, has launched a nationwide online campaign for mapping various species of trees in the country.
Thousands of individuals and groups in the country are expected to participate in the six-day neighbourhood trees campaign which will be held between April 22 and 27. The initiative requires people to click photographs of trees and upload them on the portal. The campaign envisages creating a page for every tree species in India and the data will be easily accessible to the public. A number of organisations such as alternative.in, atree, seasonwatch, Wipro and others have become partners in the campaign.
